Caldecott Medal – award given for excellence in illustration of picture books
Coretta Scott King Book Awards – recognize outstanding books for young adults and children by African American authors and illustrators that reflect the African American experience.
John Newbery Medal– most distinguished contribution to children’s literature
Laura Ingalls Wilder Award – honors an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.
Margaret A. Edwards Award – honors an young adult author’s body of work for lasting influence
Michael L. Printz Award – award given for excellence in literature written specifically for adolescents
Mildred L. Batchelder Award – given for excellence in children’s book originally published in another country
Rainbow Project Book List – recommended books dealing with gay, lesbian, bisexual, trangendered and questioning issues and situations for children up to age 18
Schneider Family Book Award – book that chronicles a person’s disability experience for child and adolescent audiences.
Stonewall Awards: Mike Morgan & Larry Romans Children’s & Young Adult Literature Award – books that have exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered experience
The Reading List – awards for genre fiction
William C. Morris Debut YA Award – honors a debut book published by a first-time author writing for teens
